A bite-sized classic-styled micro-roguelike you can play during a coffee break or the various "unskippable side quests" of our present age!

Made in my spare time over two weeks as a personal challenge.

Classic Roguelike Experience!

  • Play in the Terminal application of your choice or a fancy Windowed mode with fullscreen support!
  • Classic ASCII graphics with "drag n drop" support for user-created texture packs!
  • Combat system with attacks, defenses, and retaliation moves. A good balance of simplicity and strategy.
  • Tiny levels that take only a few seconds to complete but keep you playing for as long as you want!
  • Item-based progression. Keep everything you find without any inventory management hassle!
  • Attacking monsters, using items, and mining gold are all performed automatically for the context by simply walking into a tile!
  • Verbose logging system so you can feel like you're part of the action and always know what's going on!
  • Potions and Status Effects!
  • Go mining for gold and hunt for treasure!
  • Unique creatures that infest the caverns!
  • Combine Items at the Smithy!
  • Catch Wisps in bottles!
  • And more?

Controls:

  • Arrow keys or WASD to move
  • NUMPAD for moving with diagonal movement (or QEZC)
  • L to switch the layout of the "UI" (Terminal mode only for now)
  • ESC to quit to menu
  • ESC when at menu to quit the application

Dropped a quick video for your game as it is now. Hope development continues.

Thanks so much for giving it a try and for being so thorough!

Your criticisms were valid, and the update I’m currently working on aims to address a good number of these things.

Many things you mentioned were caused by poor balancing. Several things just need to have some values tweaked and I hope that my new update will improve the game in this regard. (For example, Predator creatures for do actually become satiated after hunting but I set the satiation value too low so its not really very helpful since it wears off too quickly and there’s no log message for it).

A few of the other things such as the potions resulted from my design decision to avoid any menu UIs or convoluted keybinds. I have been working on some changes that will hopefully make this better or at the very least give the player a way to save themselves from unlucky potions.

I’m very grateful for your review though and I appreciate your rating and detailed feedback. This is my first roguelike so it helps immensely.

Also I wanted to mention that originally the overarching goal of the game was to work up to a duel with a necromancer (hence all the corpse mechanics) but I ran out of time near the end of my 14 days. However, if you’re lucky enough to surpass level 30, then you will be able to see the Necromancers as I did decide to add them to the end-game spawn pool since I didn’t want to cut them completely. They are still kinda half-baked though.

(Also I want to apologize for blasting music into your ears without giving you an in-game volume option or explaining how the config file settings work.)

(Also the reason for the post-jam version being a smaller file size was that I removed a lot of ambient audio tracks that were unused anyway)

Following you and getting the game ASAP :) Thank you!

Oh brilliant, apparently Windows defender might flag the game because it thinks the executable is a virus. I will fix this ASAP!

This is all because I wanted to compile the game into a single .exe file to be more portable.

EDIT: THIS SHOULD BE FIXED NOW BUT PLEASE NOTIFY ME IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES RUNNING THE GAME

Ugh, I tested for hours and didn’t see any crashes. I upload to itch, download the file, run it from my downloads directory, got about 5 minutes in before crashing. I will fix it as soon as I can, don’t worry.

If you want to email me the error log files, then that may be helpful.

Thanks
