Update and Current State of Development

Alright, here's an update about the latest changes and the current plan for the project's future.

Changes:

  • Mouse sensitivity is now normalized to be unaffected by screen resolution. Only noticed this issue when I got a new monitor for my PC recently. If you felt the sensitivity was off before, try it now and it should feel better. I'll add an options menu eventually to let users fine-tune some settings but for now this fix at least makes it consistent for everyone.
  • The speed of the Player and Enemies has been tweaked. The player's speed has been reduced a bit since I felt it was just obscenely fast and I am planning to add directional dashing eventually which would increase the speed even more. Since the player's speed was reduced, I reduced the speed of most of the enemies as well. The shinies are still faster than the player but not quite as overwhelmingly fast as they were in the previous version. This slows down combat a bit and makes it easier.
  • Adjusted spawn position of the Initial enemy spawners. There won't be one behind the player anymore since it was too confusing without there being any sound queues so I moved it directly in front of the player so it can be seen as soon as it appears after the dagger is touched.

Regarding the future of the project:

When I started working on this a few months ago I only had a vague vision of what I wanted it to be. More recently that vision has become more defined and it is unfortunately quite different from the current state of the project.  Because of this, I am going to be making lots of big changes and redoing nearly everything to make it better, more robust, and better aligned with my vision. (I'll probably stop updating the itch build as frequently but I'll continue being active in the discord. For anyone just discovering this project I'd recommend you go there if you want to see how the game is progressing.)

Additionally, since the game is going to be undergoing some major changes, it will be renamed and the "Working Title" prefix will be dropped. The game is still going to be a Devil-Daggers/Quake-inspired arena shooter but the thematic elements will be different enough that the name "Borealis" did not seem like a good fit.

I'm very excited with the direction the game is taking and look forward to getting some good progress made over the next few weeks to months.
